Apply for a Home

Arundel Habitat  for Humanity selects families based on specific criteria as well  as an extended selection process. The first step of the process  requires the family to attend a family information meeting where  they can find out about the program and obtain an application.  The Family Selection committee will review each application with  consideration to:

  1. the family's actual need for housing as determined by the condition of their current shelter
  2. the family's ties to Anne Arundel County - the family must currently live in Anne Arundel County or Brooklyn or Curtis Bay
  3. the family's ability to pay a no-interest, no-profit Arundel Habitat mortgage and complete required "sweat equity" work on a Habitat house. Typically, family income must range between $19,000-$38,000
  4. the family's willingness to partner

It is very  important that applicants be completely honest on their applications  and in any interviews with Arundel Habitat for Humanity.

ACTUAL NEED
A family is  in need of decent standard housing if they are living in conditions  which are judged to be substandard.

Substandard  conditions can be, but are not limited to, the following:

Broken or  inadequate heating systems; unsafe or inadequate electrical systems;  lack of or inadequate water supply; lack of or broken bathroom  facilities; lack of or poor condition of kitchen furnishings

Poor structural  supports for house; leaking roof; walls which are in poor condition,  contain unsafe paint, or are not insulated and have cracks or  holes to the outside; windows which are broken or do not fit properly;  flooring which is broken or in an unsafe condition to support  persons or furniture; an infestation of insects or animals which  is uncontrollable by the homeowner

Inadequate  number of bedrooms or other living areas as determined by the  number of persons living in the household and by the age and sex  of household members. In evaluating the substandard living conditions  of a family, consideration will also be given to whether the current  living conditions are unsafe due to health factors.

Year 2005-2006 Guidelines
