Faith Programs

All faith organizations (congregations, schools, networks) are invited to join us in this life transforming ministry!

Faith in the Neighborhood
A faithful effort to transform houses, lives and neighborhoods

A partnership between:
Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake
Paul’s Place
Faith organizations from the Baltimore & Anne Arundel County Area

The goal:
To build affordable housing throughout the Baltimore City area and Anne Arundel County

How it gets done:
- All partners contribute to the purchase cost & rehab of vacant homes
- Faith organizations send volunteers to work on rehabbing the homes
- Habitat of the Chesapeake homeowners work side by side with volunteers and purchase the homes when completed.
- Homeowners and staff are available to come and speak to your organization.

How YOU can get involved:
- Make a pledge  to support the work through prayer or volunteering
- Sponsor a house:  Raise the funds and volunteers to build a house
- Join a coalition: Several coalitions exist that allow congregations to partner together to raise the funds for sponsoring a house.
- Join the Interfaith Volunteer Corps:  A coalition of the three Abrahamic faiths that raise money, consciousness and walls to build homes and bridges between the faiths.
- Faith in the Neighborhood partner/Covenant Congregation : contribute prayer, time and/or money to the building of all the homes we work on.

Where will we be building?
-  In Washington Village/Pigtown on Ward Street.
-  The Interfaith Coalition will build wherever needed.
-  The Annapolis Coalitions will be working on Clay Street in the spring.
-  A new Annapolis Interfaith Coalition will be building on Clay Street in the spring.
-  We have received a 2010 Thrivent Builds Homes Grant (Thrivent Builds ) so that Lutheran churches will be building on Clay Street in the spring.

Homeowners Share Their Habitat Stories

With tissues in hand, Kim Washington and Dana Gaither support one another when they go out to speak about becoming Habitat of the Chesapeake homeowners. They have similar stories to tell and tell them with heart and deep appreciation for all the volunteers they have met and will never meet who choose to come and help build homes for families who have a dream of a better way of life! Dana and Kim spoke at the Faith Breakfast hosted by Paul’s Place down the street from their new homes. Kim has been speaking at churches for months and now the two of them are on the road most weekends to tell the Habitat for Humanity story!

Kim was at recently at Mays Chapel United Methodist and we received this note from them:

“I do not have the words to describe what an honor it was to have Kim at Mays Chapel Church today. She is a powerful presence and I am thankful that I was there to share the experience with her and our church.”

If you’d like a Habitat of the Chesapeake homeowner or staff member to come and speak to your organization, contact Jayna Powell at [ email ].
