Arundel Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit ecumenical Christian ministry that welcomes volunteers from all walks of life and any faith to build decent, affordable homes in the Anne Arundel county region.

On Saturday, June 20, 2009 Arundel Habitat
celebrated the Dedication of two new homes!

Ella Joseph became the proud owner of house #108 at 821 Jack Street
O'Mega Houston became the proud owner of house #107 at 818 Jack Street
in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ella, a native of Haiti, came to the United States with very little knowledge of the English language. Determined to succeed she worked as a nanny while attending classes at night to learn English. Within 6 months she was able to find a better position in the hospitality field. It was there that she learned about Habitat for Humanity. She met Clay Street homeowner, Mark Beavers, and he told her about the program and gave her an application.
Ella's husband Joseph says, "Ella knew that if she was accepted this program would make her dream come true. Once she was contacted and learned the requirements of the program, Ella was diligent in completing all the requirements. She is very humble and is so grateful to Arundel Habitat for making her dream come true -  Owning a home in America!"

O'Mega (on left at her dedication) found Habitat one day in Brooklyn in 2005 when she walked by our construction trailers. Eric Bernhradt, our Construction Administrator, explained the mission of Arundel Habitat for Humanity and encouraged her to apply. It wasn't until 2008, with the support of Sarah's House, that O'Mega filled out an application to become a Habitat homeowner. She says, "I didn't want Section 8 or public housing."  O'Mega looks back on the challenges of her life and sees how they brought her to where she is today. She told us, "I was like a seed that was planted and I had to grow through the soil, but now I'm coming through. I'm O'Mega and I'm not going anywhere."
