Why are volunteers important?
Volunteer labor makes Habitat houses affordable – if we employed construction workers, the price of the house would quadruple!  Volunteers, like you, make safe, decent, affordable housing possible.  We cannot build without you! Do I have to have construction experience to participate?
No previous construction experience is required.  Skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome!  Just bring a good attitude and a willingness to learn.  If you have any special skills, please indicate them on the volunteer registration site.  And if you prefer not to do construction, see the other volunteer opportunities below.

Can I complete community service hours by volunteering for Habitat?
Yes.  Construction volunteers work 8 hour shifts, and there are usually volunteer opportunities available off-site as well.  But please don’t procrastinate signing up, or our schedule might be full.

Can I volunteer if I’m under the age of 16?
You cannot participate in construction projects unless they are specially arranged, but there are other volunteer opportunities available.  If you are between the ages of 16 and 18, please fill out a youth waiver and make sure to have your guardian sign it.

When can I volunteer?
Check our calendar after you have completed an orientation!  Our main build days are Fridays and Saturdays, though volunteers can also build on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  The build day usually lasts from 8:00am to 4:30pm – make sure you’re on time!  If you’re going to be late or need to leave early, please let us know when you sign up.  For other volunteer opportunities, check with us for times.

Construction
We’re building in southern Baltimore and downtown Annapolis.  After completing our orientation, you’ll be able to see our construction calendar and sign up to build!  
Red Hats
Are you a skilled construction volunteer who would like to become move involved?  Let us know!  We’re looking for “Red Hats”, or volunteer crew leaders, to help us lead volunteers on Fridays and Saturdays.
Lunch
 Arundel Habitat tries to provide lunch for all volunteers every Saturday, and we really appreciate your help!  
ReStore
Check out our ReStore!  It’s a home-improvement store with all proceeds coming back to Habitat.  If you’d like to volunteer here, please call Assistant Manager Liz Kennedy at (410) 437-7755 and check out their website.
Committees
Interested in long-term involvement?  We have committees for Fundraising, Faith Relations, Family Selection, Family Partnership and more!  
Office Work
We also have odd jobs at the office, but make sure you call ahead.  Volunteers help make phone calls, run copies, do data entry, fold brochures, distribute fliers… you name it!
